Category: Beef / Barbecue This is a simplified version of a classic Japanese recipe. Use your favorite stir-fry sauce.
12 scallions, ends trimmed 4 steak, thin-cut, top round kind .75 cup stir-fry sauce 3 tablespoons sugar 3 tablespoons water
Microwave scallions in a loosely covered pie plate on high one minute to soften. Place each steak between sheets of plastic wrap and gently pound until about 6 inches long and 1/8 inch thick. Lay 3 scallions down length of each piece. Tightly roll up from long side. Secure with wooden toothpicks. Put in a large Ziplock bag. Mix sugar and water together and microwave until sugar is melted. Add 1/3 of this mixture to bag as a marinade. Refrigerate for about one hour. Heat grill. Grill meat for five minutes, turning to brown on all sides. Remove toothpicks; trim ends of negamaki, then cut alternately straight across and diagonally in 2 inch lengths. Microwave sauce in a bowl to heat. Serve with nagamaki.
